Read with Understanding Guide and Diary

Purpose:
To use to assess and reflect on the use of the Read With Understanding Standard while reading. The guide and Diary support both learning about the RWU Standard and observation and documentation of using the Standard.

Process:
Students might use the Guide in conjunction with the Diary as they read a text. The questions in the Guide help them think about using the Standard. The Diary is tool to record their experiences.

Teachers might "prompt" reading by asking questions from the Guide.

Teachers can use the Diary as a place to record observations, for example on use of strategies. Guide questions can be used to expand on what is observed.
